Welcome to Dubrovnik, Croatia — Our Adriatic Adventure Begins!

After a month of traveling through the Balkans by bus, we’ve finally arrived in Croatia—plans we’ve made with friends for over a year! And, we’re starting in the spectacular walled city of Dubrovnik.

Founded in the 7th century, Dubrovnik—then known as Ragusa—became one of the Mediterranean’s most influential maritime republics, famous for its diplomacy, the abolition of slavery in 1416, and establishing the world’s first formal quarantine system in 1377. More recently, Game of Thrones made Dubrovnik famous to a whole new audience as the filming location for King’s Landing. Today, its beautifully restored UNESCO-listed Old Town is one of Europe’s most iconic destinations.

Our first mission upon arrival? 🚨 Find Tex-Mex! After weeks of Balkan cuisine, we made a beeline for the Hard Rock Café and devoured a plate of sizzling fajitas. Sometimes you just have to answer the craving. 🌮😋

Now, can we talk about the HEAT? 🥵 For a coastal city, Dubrovnik is unbelievably—almost offensively—hot. The massive limestone streets and centuries-old stone walls soak up the summer sun and radiate the heat back long after sunset. Throw in the narrow medieval streets and thousands of tourists, and we can’t seem to turn off the sweat spigot. 🥵💦

Thankfully, we’re soon boarding the MV Memories, a small luxury ship carrying just 38 passengers, to celebrate a special milestone birthday with friends. We’ll spend the next week sailing from Dubrovnik to Split, exploring beautiful islands and charming coastal villages along the Adriatic.

Croatia, we’re ready. 🇭🇷⚓🥂
